The 1000 Islands is an international playground, not only for humans, but for many different species of game fish. The St. Lawrence River and surrounding lakes and streams have long been a destination for serious anglers. The St. Lawrence itself is home to 88 species of fish including such well-known game species as muskellunge, northern pike, both large and small mouth bass and pickerel. The king is the mighty muskie; the world record 69 pound, 15 ounce muskie was caught here in 1959.
